Why Should You Learn To Play A Musical Instrument ?

Many studies and researches have found that children who are exposed to musical training outperform those who have not taken any music lessons.  They perform well not only in tests of auditory discrimination and finger dexterity but also in skills that appear unrelated to music such as pattern recognition and verbal ability   A study  confirms that music prompts greater connectivity between the brain left and right hemisphere. The information studied in the learning process engages the left side of the brain while the music itself activates the right side of the brain. Early music training appears to most strengthen the connections between brain neurons and even leads to the establishment of new pathways.

Recent researches show that learning to play a musical instrument further strengthens this connection. This practical involvement connects and develops the motor systems of the brain, refining the entire neurological system in ways that seemingly cannot be done by any other activity.

There are so many reasons why learning to play a musical instrument offers a lot of benefits.  Basically we can narrow it down to 3:

1. Playing A Musical Instrument Actually Makes You Smarter

Learning to play a musical instrument improves eye-hand coordination and helps children develop their motor skills.  You learn to concentrate, memorize, and strengthen your intellectual skills. It strengthens your reading and math and helps you to think ahead and visualize. In short, it enhances your cognitive skills.

2. It Teaches Discipline and Patience

Music is empowering. It teaches so many areas outside the intellectual domain. You have to be disciplined in order to master playing your instrument. You have to be patient and set aside some time each day to practice.  It also gives you a sense of achievement and enhance your confidence and self-esteem. It is a perfect tool for releasing creative and emotion.  You can compose your own tune.  Or even improvise one.  You discover new things each lesson.

3. Playing A Musical Instrument is Fun
