Classical Piano

Course Details

This course continues to be based on our MIM® philosophy, emphasizing on all-rounded training. We do not only train our students to acquire proper hand techniques to tackle the demands of the exam syllabus, we also work to increase the repertoire, improving the aural and musicianship skills and the understanding of music of different genre.

This course is flexible to suit the needs of students for different examination syllabus, namely the Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) and London College of Music Examinations (LCME). The duration of each grade is about 1 year. Any plan to skip grades will need have the approval of the Principal. Moreover, students who show potential to skip grade are encouraged to apply to our SMARTTM, the Seimpi MIM® Accelerated and Robust Training program.

We have a standardized teaching syllabus to make sure every teacher and student adhere to a well-planned and focused program. This is to ensure a good quality control in our all piano courses conducted in the premise of Seimpi School of Music.

There will be opportunities to participate in performances like the Classical Extravaganza series and MIM® annual concerts.

Assessments and trial examinations will be conducted prior to examinations every year to keep students in check on their progress, to instill confidence in them and boost their performing skills. Concerts, music festivals and music camps will be held to give students performing opportunities and a well-rounded and enriching experience.

Classical Violin

MIM Courses

First launched in 2002, Seimpi's very own Music for the Intelligent Mind (MIM®) program was developed for children from 4 months old to 7 years old. help nuture both the left and right brain. With a carefully planned syallabus, we gradually guide students to explore the richness and excitement of music through interesting play, activites and musical games.

Registered with Ministry of Education (MOE), Singapore, Seimpi's MIM® program is now officially accredited by the London College of Music Examinations (LCME), part of the University of West London ; the first pre-school programme endorsed outside of the UK. Besides being run in our own centres, our MIM course has also been incorporated into core programmes and enrichment courses in kindergartens and childcare centres, such as Learning Vision and PCF Sparkletots. MIM® Dance

Course Details

MIM® (Movement for the Intelligent Mind) Dance aims to use physical movements, auditory and visual stimulations to lead children to develop their inner expressions, flexibility of body movements, auditory and visual perceptual skills. It forms the core foundation for children to learn to move their bodies with the auditory stimulation (usage of animal sound, nature sound, songs and rhymes, instrumental music etc) and visual stimulation (pictures of nature, animals, objects, buildings, activities, colours etc), children will gain a seamless transition to go into the graded dance studies

-Develop aesthetic awareness of the beauty of music and art
-Physical, auditory and visual stimulations
-Developing children's self-confidence and self-awareness
-Introduction of different dance elements, i.e modern dance, contemporary dance, tap dancing and ballet

MIM DANCE SPARKLERS
Course duration: 60 mins, once a week

Dancing is an important form of performing art. The benefits that this course brings to pre-school children are numerous: It helps to develop children's physical skills, stamina, expression and rhythmic feel using the combination of 'sight and sound' stimulation, unique in our MIM® teaching concepts. Our instructors will definite a clear target to children, working from their existing physical skills to gradually build up to a competent level equivalent to the PrePrimary standard of the international examination boards. Regular dance practice can increase your child's flexibility, balance, and coordination, improve overall cardiovascular health. Movements include the control of legs and feet, fingers and hands, walking, running and balance, bouncing and jumping, bending and spinning, picked-up galloping, skipping and imaginative movement sequence.

MIM DANCE DAZZLERS
Course duration: 60 mins, once a week

Our instructors will guide children into a competent level equivalent to the Primary level of the international examination boards. Movements will be more specific to include the control of legs and feet, arms and head, bending and running, bending and pointing, transferring of weight, marching, jumping, springing, combination of several movements such as galloping and skipping, running and leaping and ball bouncing actions. At the end of the course, children will be able to articulate parts of the body, perform with an awareness of space, demonstrate control, co-ordination and elevation. Apart from the obvious physical agility, children are aware of rhythmical and expressive elements in music, able to recall the settings and perform in sequential movements to depict stories.

MIM® Speech & Drama

Course Details

Speech and drama is a lifelong skill of communication and interaction. This is where the both side of the brain come together; where the right side involves creativity while the left includes the language capability.Children who take up speech and drama are more positive and confident. This also helps them to develop self-control and also discipline, which will serve them in all aspect of life.

The involvement towards speech and drama will allow them to learn to work together and cooperate in group, develop their listening skills, and also to teach them to exchange ideas. Speech and drama program serves to nurture your child’s confidence level, speech and performance skills, public speaking, imagination and intuition, creativity, maturity, responsibility, language and vocabulary.

SPEECH & DRAMA LEVEL 1
Lesson Duration: 60mins, once a week for 6 months

Speech and drama can help develop a child’s self-confidence, social skill, character and personality. It also aids in encouraging the importance of communication through creativity and imagination. Through this, a child can begin to truly learn what it means to express themselves fully in the context of everything around them. In this course, the children will be exploring the English language using many dramatic methods. These include story telling, rhymes, poems, mimes and plays. Many new and interesting teaching aids will be used to enhance this exciting experience. Through this creative outlook, the children will be able to grasp the English language with ease and confidence, while continuing to become a more independent individual as the weeks go by. The speech and drama lesson will be divided into 5 categories. The first will be music and movement, where the children will learn the English language through singing and dancing. The second topic will aim to develop the fine motor skills by varying methods including mime. Reading aloud and learning about their voices for the third category will develop the language while also enhancing their hearing skills. The variety of role plays that we will study in the next topic can aid to develop their creative and imaginative vision. Finally, constructive drama games will encourage the children to develop their social skills, and ultimately leave the lesson a more confident and reenergized person.

SPEECH & DRAMA LEVEL 2
Lesson Duration: 60mins, once a week for 6 months

The kinder drama course will provide various speaking based and drama based activities to strengthen the child’s communication skills, boost confidence in public speaking, build self esteem, learn leadership skills, increase ability to adapt and improvise, become more assertive, and build awareness of social skills. The lesson will be divided into 5 categories. The first will be music and movement, where the children will gain a further understanding of the English language through singing and body movement. The second topic will strengthen the fine motor skills through detailed mimes and challenging art projects. The children will be expected to memorise lines from well-known poems and rhymes and then perform them to the class for our third segment. The variety of mimes and role plays that we will study in the next topic can aid to further develop their creative and imaginative vision. Finally, constructive group drama activities will motivate the children to expand their social skills, and prepare them even better for when they advance to Primary 1.

MIM® Jumpstart (12 months to 23 months old)

Current research indicates that children starts learning even before they are born and that music plays a vital role in developing the child's mental as well as emotional faculties. Children between the age of 12months to 24months are especially keen and adept at learning music through the process of absorption with or without random or purposeful responses.

With the above in mind, together with the philosophy behind Seimpi's successful MIM® Program, MIM® Jump-start is designed to develop, enhance and enrich your child's musical potential through interesting infant games and play songs, pitch training, speedreading, eye / ear training, rhythmic training, vocalisation, music perception and music analysis. This program not only prepares and primes your child's mind for more advance musical studies in MIM® Playtime and MIM® in Me but enhances your child's IQ Development, Self Esteem, Creativity, Emotional Intelligence, Musical Geniushood, Physical Coordination and Dexterity.

MIM® Jump-Start incorporates MIM® activities specially customized according to your child's development to develop your child's unique potential.

MIM® Playtime (2 years old onwards)

From conception, children are able to learn quickly and easily but will gradually lose this ability as they grow older -- unless positively stimulated through simple learning techniques. This "window of opportunity" to easily develop whole-brain capabilities is open until about age 7.

MIM® Playtime aims to stimulate and tickle the music brain of children under 3 with colourful flashcards, educational toys, percussion instruments, keyboards and other interesting teaching aids. cultivates toddlers' musical talent, exposing them to the sounds of different instruments, encourages early note reading, rhythmic training, aural training, concentration training, memory training- photographic and audio, recognition of keys and perfect/ relative pitch training. This early exposure helps them tremendously in their future path in becoming a fine musician.

MIM® In Me (3 years old onwards)

Course Details

Age Group :3 years old
Duration of Course :1 year
Lesson Duration :1 hour, once a week
Students per class :8 (with parent's participation)

MIM® in Me continues to use the teaching concepts from MIM® Playtime, which is carefully planned to enhance whole brain learning, encouraging early note reading, rhythmic training, aural training, concentration training, memory training - photographic and audio, recognition of keys and perfect/ relative pitch training. Students will start to learn keyboard playing, with the understanding of proper keyboard playing techniques. It further extends its concentration training, eye training, rhythmic training and ear training to include dictation, sight reading and sight singing. The memory training will also extend to include kinesthetic and analytical memory. There will be an end of course assessment on MIM® by London College of Music Examinations and certificates will be awarded by LCME upon successful completion.

Violin With MIM® (3 to 8 years old)

Course Details

Age Group :3-5 years old & 6-8 years old
Duration of Course :1 year
Lesson Duration :1 hour, once a week
Students per class :8 (with parent's participation)

It uses the same concept of teaching as MIM® In Me / Encore. It starts by teaching the proper and correct violin playing technique right from the very beginning. Unlike other courses which only emphasises imitation playing, neglecting the proper posture and techniques, this course aims to build up the techniques and postures right from the age of three years old. This can be achieved using interesting visual and teaching aids to assist the understanding. Reading and eye training play an important role in nurturing a good musician, just like 'written and spoken language', these two training must come hand in hand in acquiring musical literacy.

Ensemble training is given to enhance the ability to interact with other musician of a different age group. Through these training, then students are ensured of receiving a good and sound foundation in their music education.

This course eliminates the hassle of having to re-learn during a student's later stage of training on how to cope with serious examination when a child is ready to take on the ABRSM, LCME or other British exam board's Graded exams. In summary, this course prepares a student well into a good performing standard without omitting the fun and joy of learning the violin.

MIM® Encore (4 to 7 years old onwards)

Students per class :6 (regular parent's participation recommended)

MIM® Encore specializes in training children of 4-7 years old, who have already had some abilities to read and play music on the piano. Students who have not had any kind of training in music would have to join our MIM Encore Preparatory course for up to 6 months first before they could take part in MIM®Encore.

It continues to use the teaching concepts of the earlier levels of MIM® courses to lead students into cultivating the discipline and the love for piano playing. The syllabus is designed according to the syllabus of British Music Examination Boards, giving students ample preparation to lead into ABRSM, LCME and other British exam board Graded exams in the future. At the same time, students will get ample opportunities to become a more confident and well-rounded musician through the various and fascinating ways of musicianship training available in this course.

The activities conducted in this course are very much alike with the training in music colleges except that they are modified to suit the learning profile of young children. Solo playing and ensembles (which emphasize on group playing) are incorporated together in equal importance to enable students to get the maximum benefits of a well-planned music curriculum. There will be an end of course assessment on MIM® by London College of Music Examinations and certificates will be awarded by LCME upon successful completion.

After graduating from MIM Encore, the students will progress to lessons (based on British exam board graded syllabus) on an individual basis or group (under MIM Encore Advanced), or individual basis together with MIM® AMUS (Aural & Musicianship) lessons if accepted under the SMART™ (Seimpi MIM® Accelerated and Robust Training) program.

Seimpi MIM® Accelerated & Robust Training (SMART™)

Course Details

1. To give an all rounded and robust training to students who possess the abilities to accelerate their music studies.
2. To give more opportunities to students to perform in public and to work together with students of similar talent to gain more exposure and experience in music performance.
3. To give students a good and proper foundation for more serious music learning in the future.


Programme Modules
Instrumental training
Students will get weekly individual coaching in their instruments on a one to one basis. Syllabus of each grade is to be completed in half a year. Parents are encouraged to be present during the lesson time to understand the contents of each lesson. At least 1 - 2 hours (depends on the grades) of instrumental practice at home each day is strongly encouraged, in order for the child to benefit fully from this programme.

Aural & Musicianship training
A weekly group lesson is given to students of each level to develop their skills in aural & musicianship. This is important as it provides the software needed in the training of a fine musician. A musician? performance relies on the inner hearing and understanding of music to project and interpret well. ABRSM requires students to have good abilities in this area to achieve distinctions in its examinations.

Masterclass
Attending a monthly masterclass is compulsory for every student in SMART programme. Each student is required to play 2 pieces of his/her current repertoire. This aims to further prepare the mind and techniques for performances or examinations in the future.

Entry Requirements
Every student has to go through an audition in Seimpi School of Music to qualify to enter SMART programme. Students are required to : Play TWO pieces of music from different genres.

Students must have the following pre-requisite: MIM Encore(4th term onwards), ABRSM Graded/Prep test or any UK examination equivalent.

**Seimpi School of Music holds the right to reject an application. Audition fees for non-Seimpi School of Music students: , Seimpi School of Music students: (price subjected to 7% GST). The decision of Seimpi School of Music is final.

Students who fail to meet the expectations of this programme will not be allowed to take the ABRSM graded examination according to the schedule as planned in SMART programme.

MIM® Infants

Course Details

This course aims to to use music to work effectively with the infants. With carefully selected song materials, infants will benefit from an improvement in awareness in sound, speech and reflex. The combination of sight and sound in our teaching will stimulate the inter-neuron connections that are so vital in the first year of a baby's life.

Activities include: vocal development activities with single vowel singing, singing the appropriate songs suitable for infants, flashcard training, music and movement, and early aural training.

Your baby will be introduced and exposed to various sounds, pitch, rhythm and movement through songs and rhymes, so as to develop and sharpen his/her auditory memory and perception. This will help lay the foundation for the baby's subsequent aural skills development when the baby is more able to vocalize.

The exposure to movements with music helps develop the baby's innate sense of rhythm, and the touching movements will promote bonding between parent and baby.

MIM® Toddlers

Students will start to learn piano playing, with the understanding of proper piano playing techniques.
